Folk Tale Camp $500 (Ages 8-11) July 23 – August 3

Lumina’s youngest actors have fun exploring a Folk Tale and turning it into a special performance. Actors receive direction for stage presence, vocal techniques and character development. Actors use their imagination to help create costumes, props or sets. Each day includes theatre games, art activities, outside play (weather permitting) and rehearsals. The camp ends with a performance.

Summertime Players $800 (ages 9-12) June 18 – July 6 (there is camp on July 4th)

Actors learn vocal techniques, work on character development, line memorization tips and choreography. This camp produces a show that is more advanced than the Folk Tale camp which offers more challenges to the actors. Each day is spent playing theatre games, rehearsing, lunching and playing outside (weather permitting) and honing their acting skills.

Quest Theatre $950 July 16 – August 4 and Noir Theatre $950 June 18 – July 7(there is camp on July 4th) (Ages 12+)

Often written by Lumina’s playwright, David Minton, these original plays are a great way for actors to start their Lumina experience or improve their character development skills. Lumina’s summerstock camps for the older actors are full of fun, friendship and excitement! Producing an original, professional level show in 3 weeks takes teamwork and the desire to have fun while working hard. These camps culminate with premiere performances at the Silver Spring Black Box Theater.

Understanding the Lumina Summerstock Theatre Camp experience

Lumina is fortunate to have most of our actors return again and again to participate in Summerstock productions. However, new actors are encouraged and welcome to join in the exciting experience. For some new actors the level of professionalism these camps are approached with may be surprising at first.

Unlike many other theatre summer camps, Lumina productions are not informal or casual productions, and each camp day is fully scheduled with important elements pertaining to the final production. Attendance is mandatory and we do not permit late arrivals or early departures.

New participants occasionally may feel a little overwhelmed with the first day or two, but by the end of the first week they are caught up in the excitement, fun and challenge of producing an original play and becoming a part of an acting ensemble.
